Two Rugby Lions U13s have been chosen to join the Wasps Developing Player Programme (DPP) for this season following their recent successful trials held at Old Coventrians.

Alfie Leighton-Lambert and Richard Phipps have both been at Webb Ellis Road since joining as Under 8’s and have honed their skills and knowledge of the game over the last six seasons with the club. Both are also regularly seen at the club for senior games, volunteering as touch judge and ball boy, picking up new gameplay ideas to bring to their own games.

Alfie is a powerful forward who has adapted to playing at Number 8 in his first season as a Junior. His technical play is progressing at a fantastic rate and he uses his knowledge to help others progress, becoming a natural leader on the pitch.

Richard has always been a fast and skilful carrier of the ball but has further enhanced his game, adapting to the larger pitch sizes of junior rugby. Using his ingenuity to find space, he opens up defences every week causing panic to the opposition.

Our U13’s team has gone from strength-to-strength over the years they have been playing together and had a third player who was unfortunate not to progress beyond the trials on this occasion due to the vast talent which was on display with clubs represented from across the Coventry and Warwickshire region. I’m sure we will see this player, and other members of our U13 team, selected to represent the club at other trials in the not too distant future – they are the future of this great club.

We would like to wish the very best of luck to both Alfie and Richard for their forthcoming sessions within Wasps DPP – you are both a credit to the club and the game itself.
