Midlands Junior Vase Semi Final

Rugby Lions vs Sileby Vikings

Kick Off at Webb Ellis Rd 2.15pm

The Lions welcome the Vikings to Webb Ellis road this Saturday both battling out for a place in the Final.  Yardley & District vs Evesham are playing the catch up Quarter Final with the winners playing away at Cleobury Mortimer on Saturday 14th February.

The Lions will show respect to Sileby in reaching the semi final by beating Ashfield 14-9. Sileby currently 6th in Midlands 4 East South have performed better at home with four wins where there away form with only one win in five suggests they don’t travel well. Though beating Ashfield at home who are 2nd in Midlands 4 East North who have only lost 2 matches this season would have been a fantastic day & a performance to be proud of for a club that was only formed 10 years ago.

The Cup allows all teams to measure themselves against supposedly more consistent performers but as we all know the under dogs can often ruin the party. Last years cup run for the Lions is a perfect example of what the under dogs can achieve on any given day. Sileby should not be under estimated.

The Lions played a very tactical game in the last round away at Buxton winning 6-24. The Lions  have not yet been pushed for 80 minutes or dare I say it, conceded a try in the cup this year with their defence being resilient, though the past 2 league games has seen it crossed five times. This has not caused any concern to the Lions coaching team as they had scored 142 points in return.

The Lions are currently 1st in their league remaining unbeaten in all league matches with a much needed improved performance last week against Kings Norton with possibly their best 1st half performance of the season, can the Lions do this again & remain focused to deliver their best 80 minute performance & power into the Final.  Competition for places is  healthy with injured players returning and wanting a piece of the action and the Development XV pushing for 1st team places after winning their Warwickshire Shield semi-final away at Coventrians 12-49.

Will the Lions be able to remain focused, with Cleobury Mortimer probably watching from the stand, and take their supporters into another Vase Final.

Rugby Lions under 9’s are playing a curtain raiser on the 1st team pitch starting at 1pm so please come along & support the Lions of the future. Come on down & enjoy the fun!! Perhaps taste too many fine ales or be a big cash prize winner on the Joker Raffle draw?!?!?
